Please contact me at nicolepjulycounselling@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your particular question.
No issue is unimportant if it is bothering you. The only thing that matters is that it is significant to you.
Therapy is a team effort. You would not have to talk about anything that you don't want to discuss. However, once we have built trust and you feel supported and understood, you may find it a relief to talk through issues from the past that have caused you shame or pain.
It depends on what you're wanting to achieve and what your issues are. You can benefit from even one session. More usually people have a minimum of 6-12 sessions. Others find they wish to explore more deep rooted issues over a period of time. It is individual to you and you make the decisions about your therapy.
I offer slightly longer sessions than the traditional fifty minute therapeutic 'hour'. My standard session is a full sixty minutes. Some clients with busy schedules may prefer fortnightly or monthly 90-minute or two-hour sessions for convenience.
Sessions are usually confidential with some limited exceptions such as where there may be a risk to oneself or others. I also discuss clients for developmental purposes with my supervisor, however, no full names are used.
I will email you a short form that you can either complete and return online; print out and bring to the first session; or we can complete it in the initial assessment session. I will also send you the contract which you can read in advance and sign if we decide to continue with the therapy after the assessment session.
Your initial session is an opportunity to discover whether I would be the right counsellor for you. You can learn a bit more about how I work and you can decide whether you feel comfortable working with me. This is essential as research has shown that the relationship between counsellor and client is one of the key factors in the success of therapy.
I would also be able to assess whether I would be the right therapist for you or whether you would be better suited to another counsellor. There are several potential reasons for this, such as the possibility your issue may be better addressed by someone with more specific training or there may be issues of confidentiality, for instance, my having previously worked with someone close to you.
My fees are £60 per hourly session although I do offer a limited number of concessionary places to students or people on low incomes. Please enquire if this is relevant to you. 90 minute sessions are £90 and two-hour sessions are £120.
I have a 48-hour cancellation policy. However, we may be able to re-schedule a session for the same week.
The principal way I work is integrative which draws on a range of different approaches.
These include the person centred approach, which puts you at the heart of the work and trusts that you are the expert in your own life and can find the answers you seek from within yourself with support and encouragement.
Psychodynamic therapy looks at how we bring past patterns of behaviour and experiences into our present life and relationships.
CBT looks at unhealthy patterns of thinking and feelings which can lead to unhelpful behaviours.
Compassion focused therapy enables you to look at yourself and your life with compassion and to undo some of those negative thought processes which lead you to be overly harsh on yourself and others.
A single session of therapy can be very effective if you want to just talk through something that's been bothering you with someone unbiased, empathic and supportive. You can have space and time to work through your feelings, feel understood and validated and if necessary explore your options calmly and with freedom.
You might want to have a one off session to help you to set goals or discover what is keeping you stuck.
A single session is usually an extended session: 90 minutes or two hours. If this is what you'd like to have, please let me know in your initial email so that I can run a session tailored for you.
Yes I can offer the rewind technique as part of ongoing therapy or as a stand-alone option. If you want the latter, we would have a minimum of two sessions, depending on the number of issues you wanted to cover, two weeks apart.
PB is a powerful body-based therapy that works at a deep level to redress past traumatic experiences, such as childhood neglect or abuse. It introduces new memories that sit alongside your past memories to provide new perspectives and overcome what has been holding you back. You can feel more connected, balanced and positive in your relationships.
