I learnt how beneficial counselling can be from my own personal experience when I was going through a difficult time in my own life. I discovered that talking to someone who wasn't a member of my family or a friend was so helpful as I could be completely open and honest, knowing that it was confidential. I learnt an awful lot about myself and I developed new skills and understanding about how to handle difficult situations.
I've always been interested in how people think and behave but it was in later life after working in a variety of jobs that I decided to make it a career. I've spent many years working on my own self awareness and understanding and I can pass on a lot of what I have learnt to my clients.
After studying part time with the Open University for a first class honours degree in Psychology, I decided to follow up my studies with a counselling qualification. I worked for a number of years with two local counselling agencies: the Phoenix Centre in Feltham and the Richmond Counselling and Psychotherapy service, both of which gave me a wealth of experience and helped to positively shape my practice.
I've been in private practice for several years and I love the variety of issues that people bring and the diverse clients that I meet. I bring a lot of my past experience into my work and I hope that helps my clients to feel understood. I'm open to and informed by a range of counselling theories and techniques. I believe that helps me to provide exactly what my clients need.
